Videos

This is some videos that I can share with you guys within 12weeks period of industrial training session.

1) View how the effect after some modification has been made with this DC014 unit. The engineers has modified the dry pan in order to reduce cost. The idea is to modify the shape of dry pan design to become smaller, the original dry pan designed was square but this new design consider failed since they are water leaking from the fin panel. This is because of the location of the new dry pan design higher than the original one and caused the water flew out from it and will affect the performance and CFM for this unit.

2) A part of procedures on how to disassemble a unit after done with System Cooling Test. It was fully assemble like the real installation in order to obtain data for the system, consist of its Btu, CFM, Power, max/min load and the temperature distribution.

Final week..!! ('',)

Wow...!! Finally, I reached the final week of this internship programme. I don't know how to describe how I feel, not to say so happy or sad because in this 3 months period, I learned a lot of things, all aspects. I gained a knowledge, works attitude and ethics, I have fun and joy, knowing new friends that really a good friends to me. It was my wonderful experience since I never involved in this real life industry before and entire this period I can see and learn all things, but the time has arrived to say to good bye to them and maybe we will meet again on next time in future. I'm really wanna say thanks to them so much because be patient with me since I was bit slow on the early stage, also how they treat n teach me to do this and that. I'm so proud to be a part of Carrier International Sdn Bhd eventhough there are not much things I have done, but still have some effort I put to help in their projects along this 12 weeks period.

11th week..

1st day, assemble FCU unit type 1400CFM into TR9 to proceed with CFM test. Previously the unit has been test with original blower now some modification has been made to reduce cost and at same time want to increase the unit efficiency. After observation, the result was failed since the CFM value is lower that previous CFM with the original blower.
2nd day, take out blower and dry pan from 800CFM FCU unit to do some painting and need to review by the engineer in charge. Then I has been asked by supervisor to do research about a temperature sensor device to the the reading accuracy. Those research for the equipments is a part of preparation to do test on big AHU unit soon. So the device involve in measuring the data must be high in accuracy to get the great result.
3rd day, no test to do and I was helping Mr. Bakri to service 6 units of air-conditioning inside and outside lab. Then proceed with update equipment and maintenance sheet for June.
4h day, really didn't have any things to do and I took half day since I have several personal matters to do.
5th day, the day that Visitor come to my place, to visit and evaluate my internship programme. Meeting my supervisor and officers in the lab to ask how I am doing along this 3 months time. My visiting lecturer is Mr. Saiful Hasmady and before the session end, I could explain to him about what I have did and examples of the results of laboratory tests. I also shared the knowledge I gained from this internship programme.

10th week..

1st day, there are less test that need to do since the project engineers doing some calculation and modification before proceed with test. Since have nothing to do, my supervisor ask to record and update location status for each items that needed e.g in-glass thermometer, which is unused, use and broke.
2nd day, proceed with equipments/items update.
3rd day, record all the data inside Microsoft Excel and saved into required destination folder.
4th day, took medical leave, fall sick because no work to do =p
5th day, tightly keep the out dated printed files, obtain all results for every tests that has been done previously to the upstairs inside the data storage room. After that, my supervisor ask me to do some research about 4 types of RTD manufactured by MATLOW. Then, proceed with disassemble 1400CFM FCU unit from TR9 and need to be installed upstairs for sound and vibration test.

9th week.

I took leave on Monday since have something to do with my PTPTN agreement and came back to work on Tuesday.
2nd day, assigned by the supervisor to disassemble the 1000CFM FCU unit inside the TR9 and need to replace with 1400CFM FCU unit to proceed with CFM test. It came without top sheet metal drain pan so we need to equip it like original assemble so that can do comparation with previous test that has been done in 2009. Procedures for CFM test remain the same, which is 3 different speed, (High, Medium and Low Speed).
3rd day, change the front panel of the unit with opening panel without grill and run CFM test again to obtain the results.
4th day, set up the unit for next test, System Cooling Test. For this test, we need to assemble like the original which is equip the unit with previous panel with grill. Welding the pipe channel for water in and water out.
5th day, assigned by the supervisor to update data for the all things inside the lab.
e.g : 1) Suggestion list to update equipments inside lab. Benchmarking and remarks suggestion items that has been done.
2) Consists of price & description for each items/equipments.

8th week..

This week we still gonna proceed with the system cooling test for the model 800 CFM FCU. This time , we will proceed with 2nd phase in this test, use different condition to obtain the result. The condition for this 2nd phase is only use High Speed and the condition for water in temperature is 7.2°C meanwhile water out is 15.6°C. The test is easy but took long time until some hours to obtain the required condition and need to print out the graph after reach the condition.
2nd day, disassemble unit in TR9 and install the 1000CFM FCU unit inside TR9 and will proceed with CFM test tomorrow.
3rd day, was not feeling well and took medical leave for one day.
4th day, feel a bit good and come to work. Need to continue the CFM test that has been setup in TR9 last 2days by using 3 different speed, (High, Medium and Low Speed). For the 1st test, data taken by an original assemble to compare results with previous test done in year 2009. *Remarks : Equip unit with grill, which same like original assemble.
5th day, offday, public holiday - Wesak Day.

7th week..

On the 1st day, I need to setup FCU for Cooling System Test. Water from chiller will come and enter the FCU as a cooler. Time to time must always adjust the chiller controller to get the required temperature for water out and water in for the FCU. The water flow rate also will be recorded. The required temperature for water in is 7.2°C and 12.8°C for water out. Vibration motor speed will work as the water controller in order to obtain required temperature.
2nd day I do some EHS and 5S things inside and outside the lab. Arrange properly cell units and items stored in the lab. Dismiss all the rubbish and unused items. After that, I do assemble FCU unit type 90,000 Btu inside TR10 for cooling system test. Side panel of the unit changed into the visible panel so that we can observe if have water leaking inside the unit through the fin panel. After an observation, we found that there are some water leaking and the fin need to take out to do some modification with it base and attach some tar onto the coil that we found leaking earlier. After re-assemble the fin panel and water leaking are more lesser. This cooling system test will be conduct tomorrow.
3rd day, proceed with cooling system test. Data recorded and sent to the engineer in charge. Proceed with EHS and 5S inside the lab.
4th day, it is time to remove the 90,000 Btu FCU inside the TR10. Remove ducting and all wasted sealant on the unit and cleaning the test area. After that we send the unit to the upstairs and keep in the storage area properly. Then we proceed with cooling system test for indoor unit model 800 CFM FCU inside TR9. The required temperature for water in is same, which is 7.2°C and 12.8°C for water out condition. We only could finish until 1st test condition (High Speed Motor) since it nearly 5pm and will continue tomorrow.
5th day, proceed with the test yesterday until we done 3 test which is different condition to get the desired results.

6th week..

After resting for 3 days, my fever has gone and I can attend to work. The 1st day, again my supervisor ask me to do final touch up, since I'm the person in charge to setup the unit and run a sample vibration test before the AHU unit gonna be test for real in front of Manager, Finance and some other engineers tomorrow. What I have done is ensure there are no air leaking after turn on the motor to increase accuracy in data reading. After several inspection, I found that some part was leaking and I need to seal it again by using sealant and after the sealant has dried, I do some test and found there are no more air leaking from the unit, and it means this unit are ready to run the test tomorrow morning. On the evening, I was helping Mr.Bakri disassemble FCU that was installed in TR9 before and need to assemble upstairs for sound test.
2nd day, I was a bit nervous since need to present the test in front of the Manager, engineers and some other officers. The objective of this test to determine allowable pressure inside the AHU unit. What we have done is, we took 2 different readings, one is for original disassemble and the other one is insulation with aluminum tape. By an observation, after AHU unit has been insulated, the pressure for both orifice and internal going higher like what we have predict earlier.
3rd day, proceed with disassemble the ducting from the motor and attach blue plastic extension between them and do insulation for the new assemble. Leakage test will be held tomorrow, again in front of the manager and senior engineers involved.
4th day, the test run at 10am and the result quite better and will be calculate for more details. After that I need to disassemble whole parts and need to send to warehouse. On the evening, I'm helping my supervisor to upgrade EHS and 5S in and outside lab since next week auditor from HQ in UK will come for visit and audit works.
5th day, no test to do and we continue with EHS and 5S things.

5th week..

On the 1st day of the week, I was instructed by the supervisor to uninstall the unit that has been done the sound test last week and replace it with another type of unit that also need to run a sound test. Same procedures applied when hanging up the unit and this unit will run sound test tomorrow night by Mr. Bakri, the senior technician engineer in the lab. On the evening, I did changed the insulation of the unit that just been removed earlier because some part of the insulation has broke since the unit need to return back to production line in factory for further process.
The next day, I learned how to run CFM test by using a water, slightly different from previously CFM test which is for air flow. At the same time, I was helping Mr. Bakri doing machine and equipment maintenance check sheet. It is normal activity in every month to update the condition for all machines and equipments located in the lab area.
3rd day, Mr. Bakri and me going outside test area to set up AHU unit for vibration test. We just only connect the ducting onto the AHU unit that attached with a motor to blow through the ducting channel right into the AHU and will see the vibration result. The setup done in one full day work, a bit tired and finish work at 5.10pm.
4th day I'm still do some touch up on the AHU unit, seal all the connecting point using sealant to avoid air leaking that will cause bad results while taking the reading. On the evening, my supervisor ask to do arrange the MSDS file and do preventive maintenance periodical check sheet.
5th day I got fever and didn't have chance to come for work.

4th week..

This week I was assigned by Mr.Lau to run CFM with two different types of model for the original unit and the one that has been modified to compare the results. On the 1st day of the test, the result of a modified unit does not meet the required characteristics and low efficiency. Engineers were involved changing the motor used in the fan coil units from 38W to 56W motor 230V and using a larger blower to get better results than the original set. On the 4th day we were able to obtain the desired results and will conduct further tests which is sound test and vibration test. Both tests can only be done at night to avoid the environment sound to get accurate results, and unfortunately I was not able to participate in the test at night because of personal matters that cannot be avoided (",). It is certainly something interesting because it is a new thing for me that I can learn other than the CFM test that I have managed to dominate the theories. However, I still have eight weeks to learn a variety of tests and I will use this opportunity with the best possible. I will upload video(s) and some photos to share at the end of this internship. (Stay tuned! lol ;p) So, that is all from me for this week. Thank you.

3rd week..

It's my 3rd week now. I think the time in this week seems long because my supervisor had gave me some works and I did on my own without pairing with Mr.Bakri anymore. At first, I was "Ok omg disaster coming and building gonna explode!" haha Well, I admit it was very nervous when running a test alone in the test room. lol. But it became better after being given a guidance and I have learned well. Just need to keep the work in the lab done by safety features that has been set to avoid the things that are not desired.
I have been asked to run a test on a fan coil unit to get the maximum CFM on high speed and minimum CFM at low speed. There have a suction blower for maintain the pressure from the blower of fan coil. Inside the suction blower have few types of nozzles that applied together to set the pressure value and each of the nozzle use at a certain pressure level to get the air velocity and shown from a device called manometer. I also need to read the barometer reading that is a constant and speed of the fan coil need to be taken by using a device to record the RPM.
Well ya, since I am still a "newbie", I cant done the test as fast as Mr. Bakri that has been work for CISB for almost 10 years. rofl xD That make me feel to learn more and will improve my skills to do a test with more lesser the percentage error (",) That's all I can share until now and will update again next week. See ya! (^,^)

2nd week xD

haha! First of all sorry I'm not telling what happened through a day by day on my internship programme. I have decided to update my activities week by week :p Well, this is my 2nd week doing my industrial training, still have 10weeks more! (",)
Ok, on Monday, my department has done a test on a fan coil to find their best air flowrate or we call it CFM (Cubic Feet per minute) if I'm not wrong lol xD Well, we are trying to get the CFM around 1400. Our first attemp was failed, we got 945.45 CFM by applying 230V. So we try to increase the voltage but we was failed again since we got 963.138 CFM. After the team has discussed they decide to K.I.V for the test and will recalculate the target CFM again. At the evening, I have been asked by my supervisor to proceed with the Success Story. I need to finish the description for every types of improvement that has been done.
For 2nd day, Tuesday, my team still proceeding with the CFM test but now with a different model of fan coil. The model type is 42 CGT004 manufactured by the company. Now we need to get its CFM around 400. On the test at the suction blower part, we used 1x4" nozzle size with 0 static pressure and 50hz of frequency. First attempt we got 335.68 CFM with 220V. So we try again with 230V and still failed, CFM was 340.421. Third try we use 240V we still couldn't get the CFM target which is only 347.21. So we discuss again and ask some other engineers to recalculate the theoretical value because they might have some problem occurred and we cannot proceed with the test. At the evening, I went to collect data from the AHU unit to find the width, length, height, pressure and discharge area. In order to obtain the leakage in L/s and L/s.m². The objective is to reduce the leakage on the AHU unit. After done with the data, I went to the site (factory) and look how the workers operate and manufacture all the units. I'm so impressed when all the workers there do respect to engineers even I'm still a trainee lol xD
On Wednesday, there are no much work I did, just continue with the sweat test but only set up the device that need to be test. Now we applied new method and see how it works to reduce those sweating. We attached the AHU panel with a foam to reduce sweat on outside surface.
Thursday I was off because off sick. I got fever and flu that caused headache :-(
Friday I came back and feel a bit okay without fever but still have flu. Luckily we have no test to do on this day and I just helping the engineer to improve safety in our lab such as put the wire on the wall inside the channel and install the pipelines for water that has been condensed by the air conditioner located on the ceiling and finish work at 5.15pm.

3rd day..

Woottt..!! It's Friday! It means that tomorrow is a holiday! lol xD Well anyway, I still do sharing what I have done today. Firstly I want to apologize for the one day delay to write this blog, regarding I went back to my hometown and I reached at midnight and I was so tired after 3 hours driving plus 8 hours working at day. Lets proceed this anyway.
On my 3rd day, our team are still looking forward on how to reduce the sweat occurred on the AHU unit. By a research, those sweating will make the thermal efficiency inside the AHU unit become lesser. So, today, the engineers decide to remove the gasket enterpost that previously attached with the aluminum interpost on the AHU body unit and start collecting data. While waiting the machine to record the data, I have been asked by my supervisor, Mr. Lau to keep in data of items that stored in the lab. The purpose of making that is to ensure all equipments and machines can be use properly to avoid hazardous. I do that until Friday's Prayer break at 12 o'clock. After the break, Mr. Bakri has taught me on how to use the machine and system as being run to collect the result. He also told me how to fill up the table for a particular testing. There are many tests can be run in the lab as I remember such as sound test, vibration test, ducting test, sweat test of course, and so forth.
After we got the result on the sweat test, Mr. Lau has give me an assigment to do a "Success Story" lol. What do you think when first hearing that verse? xD Well, success story is about a report of safety improvement quality in the lab. EH&S department officer will do an inspection around the building to keep safety on top condition. How to write the report? The main thing is picture before and after the prevention on a certain place. For an example, previously there are no "Safety Glass Area" sign and after the prevention, they build the sign and took pictures before and after. After finish the report, I return back to Mr. Bakri to join him on the sweat test data analysis and finish work at 5.15pm.

2nd day..

Yeah! This is my second day of working as a trainee. I'm getting closer to fully adapt the way of work here. The workers are also a nice person and willing to teach me how to do this and that even the simple things (lol). Well, today I followed Mr.Bakri (Mr.Lau's Assistant) to continue the research that we did yesterday and we found a new method on how to decrease the sweat on panel and it's aluminum interpost. We proceed with a test in the lab and after the test specimen has been setup, we start to collect all the data. We have two specimens to do a comparison between normal assembly and panel with superlon gasket. The objective of this test is to decrease as good as can sweat on the panel and aluminum interpost body so that the efficiency will be increase. I'm so impressed on how the engineers discuss and do the job. Tomorrow the team will proceed with new idea to overcome those sweating.

1st day...

Today was the first day of my internship program. I should be scheduled to start training on Monday, 5th April 2010, but for some reason, I was asked to start training today, Wednesday, 7th April 2010. I am currently undergoing internship program in an air-conditioning supplier Carrier International Sdn Bhd (CISB) located in Section 2 Bangi, Selangor. Last Friday, the employer has given all the safety equipment should I wear when I was at work, such as safety boot and safety glasses. In addition, I was given a pair of uniform standard of engineers working in this company.
Before starting work, I was briefed with safety features to be observed while on duty and prohibited areas and dangerous areas. Once finished, I was introduced to Mr. Lau is an engineer who will train me during the program. I was placed under Production Development department. This department has a laboratory test that will test, modify and improve the quality of the product. It is equipped with machines and tools are sophisticated and easy to handle. Today I participated in an experiment to increase the thermal efficiency in accordance with the requirements of its customers. Although a bit awkward at first, but after the guidance give by Mr. Lau, I was able to understand the concept of the test today. In honestly, I am comfortable with the treatment given by Mr. Lau and several other engineers. Hope I will enjoy my entire internship period until end.
